23 Jul NON-WOVEN BIOELASTOMER COMPOSITE
Abstract
The invention relates to a non-woven anisotropic bioelastomer composite formed by an elastomer matrix based on a cross-linked polyester of the poly(polyol sebacate) family and a reinforcement of non-woven biodegradable nanofibres obtained by electrospinning. The nanofibres can be partially embedded in the bioelastomer matrix, remaining exposed on one of the faces of the composite. The composites display improved properties and can be used in tissue engineering, such as hernia treatment and functional dressings, or in stent production. Moreover, the degradation process is delayed and the composites change shape at an activation temperature of 40-44°C. In a preferred embodiment, the matrix is produced with poly(mannitol sebacate) and the nanofibres are made from polylactic acid. The composites described are suitable for stent production, hernia repair and for controlled drug release.
