KERATOPROSTHESIS

KERATOPROSTHESIS

Abstract

FIELD: ophthalmology, replacement of eye cornea affected with opacities of different etiologies. SUBSTANCE: optical part of proposed keratoprosthesis is made in form of lens formed of elastic, optically transparent hydrogel material. Optical part is supported by plate made of porous collagen copolymer with water-soluble acrylic- and vinylic-series monomers, collagen content being 0.5-10% by weight, and pore size varying from 0.1 to 10 mcm. Leucome tissue shoots through porous supporting plate of prosthesis, tightly adheres to it, while absence of fluid flow from conjunctival cavity into eye reduces number of postoperative complications. EFFECT: proposed keratoprosthesis is not rejected by patient’s eye; reduced percentage of postoperative complications.
