23 Jul BIOMATERIAL DEVICES AND TOPICAL COMPOSITIONS FOR TREATMENT OF SKIN ABNORMALITIES
Abstract
Devices for guided tissue regeneration (GTR) include the matrix of chitosan and modifiable collagen tissue (MCT), wherein the chitosan is electrostatically coupled to the MCT to form the MCT-chitosan composite material. The MCT can be separated from invertebrate marine organisms such as sponge bodies, jellyfish, mollusks, and echinoderms. The MCT-chitosan composite material may be formulated into biofilms, three-dimensional sponge bodies, hydrogels or electrospinning nanofibers, or may be coated on the surface of a biomaterial. The devices may include a wound dressing and tissue sponge bodies including the three-dimensional sponge bodies. Application fields include tissue engineering and wound healing, and the wound healing includes others related to image and guided tissue regeneration applications. The MCT and MCT-chitosan composite material contained in the pharmaceutically acceptable topical carrier have uses in cosmetic products for treatment of various pigmentation problems including skin discoloration and black spot/melasma as well as scars.
