ALGINIC ACID-BASED SPONGE HAVING EXCELLENT FLEXIBILITY, STRUCTURAL DENSITY, ABSORPTIVITY AND PROCESSABILITY AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF

Abstract

PURPOSE: Provided is an alginic acid-based sponge, which has excellent flexibility, structural density, absorptivity and processability, and thus is useful as medical and tissue engineering materials. CONSTITUTION: The alginic acid-based sponge has a maximum bending angle (flexibility) of 90 deg. or more, an apparent density (structural density) of 0.006 to 0.1 g/cm¬3, and a saline absorptivity of 150-700%. The alginic acid-based sponge is manufactured by the method comprising the steps of: (a) forming and freeze-drying an aqueous alginic acid solution to form an alginic acid-based sponge intermediate; and (b) dipping the intermediate in an aqueous solution of a crosslinking agent to perform crosslinking, and washing and drying the crosslinked alginic acid-based sponge.
