Abstract
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure a sufficient mechanical strength withstanding a joint load by forming a matrix used as a step for a tissue engineering cartilage out of a copolymer of a polyalkyleneglycol and an aromatic polyester to enable substitution for a cartilage deformed at a joint. SOLUTION: When using a biologically decomposable and biomedically compatible porous matrix as step for a tissue engineering cartilage, the matrix is formed out of a copolymer of a polyalkyleneglycol and an aromatic polyester. The polyalkyleneglycol is preferably a polyethyleneglycol while the polyester is preferably a polybutylene terephthalate. A ceramic coating is applied on the external surface of the step while the ceramic coating is preferably a calcium phosphate coating. Moreover, the step is preferably inoculated beforehand with cells such as cartilaginous cells, bone precursor cells or steam cells.
