23 Jul INJECTABLE, SELF-SETTING CALCIUM PHOSPHATE FOAM
Abstract
It is proposed to obtain a self-setting injectable calcium phosphate foam to use as biomaterial for bone regeneration and/or as substrate for tissue engineering. The suggested way is to foam a calcium phosphate cement by addition of surfactants, agitation and mechanical whipping of the same. The addition of the surfactants allows stabilizing air bubbles in the cement matrix, leading to a high macroporosity with interconnection between the pores. Obtaining a high macroporosity is very important for bone regeneration, because it facilitates the angiogenesis, the colonisation of the material by the bone tissue and the resorption of the same. Given the applications of the material, the selection of biocompatible surfactants is especially relevant. For this reason, it is suggested to use surfactants which are already approved for drugs used in parenteral applications.
